Women in Type is a feminist initiative led by Flavia Zimbardi, built to fight gender imbalance in the type industry. We empower, inspire, and support female-identifying designers by amplifying their voices, publishing their work, and fostering collaboration. Creating the change we need.

Type history has largely overlooked women’s contributions since the industrial era, often erasing or failing to credit their work. But in a world shaped by sameness, we believe it’s time to move the collective image of success from a male-centric club to a diverse community with greater access to education, resources, and positions of influence.

What started as a series of reviews highlighting brilliant typefaces by women around the globe quickly evolved into something bigger: a place of resistance! Women in Type is about sharing experiences and building bonds that transcend borders. A collective, where women can create, connect, and lead. It’s time to show the world what we’ve got and make a mark on the field. Shoulder to shoulder. Because together we are giants!

WiT Collection
Our first fonts celebrating multiplicity launched in May 2023 with collaborations between Ayaka Ito (Japan), Inga Plönnings (Germany), and Tida Tep (USA/Cambodia): 3 continents, 3 perspectives. Next came the power of the south, featuring Brazilians Júlia Lago, Ana Laydner, and Tassiana Nuñez Costa. All projects follow a version-based release model—growing over time, expanding styles and scripts, and staying accessible for early supporters.
